Pompei is one of the most important archeological sites in the world, declared a world heritage site by Unesco in 1997.
The ancient roman town was destroyed by a terrible eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D.
But this terrible event has also preserved for us the most precious document of antiquity: the complete vision of an entire roman city with its main square and public buildings, its streets, shops, wealthy houses, baths, bakeries, brothels and much more.
Goethe, the german writer visiting Pompei in the 1700’s, said: “no other tragedy in the world has ever given so much pleasure to future generations.”
Enjoy the site with me and find out how the ancient romans used to live! We’ll be walking on the same streets as they did and I’ll make Pompei come alive for you.
TOUR OF POMPEI AT SUNSET
Also enjoy a nice walking tour of Pompei in the late afternoon, starting after 4 p.m. and ending at sunset. At that time the site is far less crowded because the majority of visitors will have gone and Pompei for the most part will be just for us.
The temperature is much cooler than it is during the daytime when, especially during the summer season, it can be very hot and humid. You’ll be taken back to another era and your time-travelling experience will become more vivid and alive.
